A Visit to Award-Winning Falls Church Farmers Market

Falls Church City’s award-winning Farmers Market is the go-to when it comes to fresh, local produce.

With live music, colorful product variety, and friendly, knowledgeable venders, this family-friendly market has something for everyone.

Located on 300 Park Ave. (with plenty of available parking), the Farmers Market is open to all from the hours of 8 AM to 12 PM every Saturday. Though they started winning awards back in 2012, the venders have been serving their community for much longer. And it’s no wonder they’re so popular!

The venders are always friendly, eager to answer questions, and graciously accept both cash and credit. Many even set out free samples. To top it off, the market not only sells organic foods to individuals and families, but also provides fresh produce to some of the local eateries – like the newly established Northside Social.

From the energy bouncing off the venders about their products to the buzz of delighted consumers, the atmosphere of the Famers Market is lively and charming – easily a picture of the heart of the town. Almost like a little town itself, enter from one side to find fresh milk, just-caught seafood, locally roasted coffee beans, homemade jams and honey, and the sweet glide of bow over string as a lead violinist collaborates with fellow band members.Falls Church Farmers Market - Apple Pies

Round the corner, and the ring of an accordion replaces the folksy band while bread, pastries, handmade cheese, homemade soups, and an expansive variety of vegetables line the path. From various kinds of potatoes, herbs, beans, and peppers, to less common finds like holy basil and the horned pumpkin, there’s truly no disappointment in the variety offered by these venders.

In the Fall, you can expect to find pumpkins galore (even rarer finds like pumpkin-roasted cheese) – and apples! Apple cider, apple pie, apple butter, dried apple slices – there’s truly no shortage of apples at the market.

One piece of advice – bring your own bag! The products on display at the Farmers Market are so enticing, you often leave with a lot more than you thought you would when you wandered in, and the compostable bags offered by many of the venders tend to pile up in your arms.

In addition to the buying and selling of fresh goods, Falls Church City’s Farmers Market also offers a program called Fit for the Farmers Market. Before you start shopping, stop by and get your day going with a quick workout by joining guided activities like yoga or jazzercise. Check out the Facebook page for details!

All in all, the Famers Market is a big hit in Falls Church City. Whether you’re a health-conscious parent, a supporter of local farming and agriculture, or if you simply need a little bit of freshness and community in your life, stop by 300 Park Ave. this Saturday and see what it’s all about.
