7 Things to Do in Falls Church – October 2018 Edition

October means crisp weather, warm drinks, and spooky Halloween delights. Keep reading to discover what’s happening in Falls Church City that keeps goblins and ghouls of all ages entertained.

Nevermore the musical / October 4-28 / Creative Cauldron

Adapted from Edgar Allen Poe’s poems and short stories, this musical is an exploration of the author’s strange and dark life. Learn more about Poe’s written works, as well as the important women in his life, through this unique take on a much-studied figure. Tickets start at $20.

Sunset Cinema / October 5 / Cherry Hill Park

Continue the fun from September with the viewer’s choice Sunset Cinema pick, Black Panther. This is the second-to-last showing in the outdoor movie series, so don’t miss it! Remember to bring blankets and layers. Treats will be available at the park for movie snacking.

Farm Day / October 6 / Cherry Hill Park

This annual event kicks off at 10 AM and admission is free. Enjoy hayrides, a petting zoo, pumpkin painting, and more. Clothing donations for scarecrow-making are being accepted at the Community Center prior to the event. Tickets for certain activities are available for purchase with cash only.

Fall Community Cleanup / October 13 / Community Center

Help keep The Little City litter-free by volunteering at this seasonal cleanup event. Meet at the Community Center at 10 AM to get assigned a work area. Register beforehand to secure supplies and be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Great for individuals and groups!

Halloween Literary Evening / October 26 / Cherry Hill Farmhouse

Especially fun for the theater-inclined, this year’s performances center around the theme “The Play’s the Thing…” Enjoy two shows, a Sherlock Holmes tale entitled The Legend of Loch Logarth, and a mystery, For Better or Worse. Both are guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat. Show starts at 8 PM.

Halloween Carnival / October 27 / Community Center

Kids under 11 can enjoy games and attractions at this family event. The night is split into two time-slots, with the first geared towards children Kindergarten-age and younger, and the second towards first-through fifth-graders. Both will feature a puppet show and a reptile exhibition called “Creepy Creatures.” Entrance is $2 per person. Followed by a Sunset Cinema screening of CoCo, which was rained out on September 7.

Chocolate and Tea / October 28 / Cherry Hill Farmhouse

Celebrate National Chocolate Day with the Friends of Cherry Hill Foundation. From 2 to 4 PM, you can enjoy sandwiches, chocolates, scones, hot tea, and more! Reservations are required, and entrance is $33 per person. The event is hosted by a costumed guide.
