November 2018: 5 Things to Do in Falls Church

November means preparing for the busy holiday season ahead. Reset, give back, and have fun in anticipation of the celebratory chaos with activities everyone will love.

Peter Pan and Wendy / November 2-18 / Creative Cauldron

Discover the magic of the boy who would never grow up with this family-favorite play. Based on J.M. Barrie’s famous novel, Peter Pan and Wendy will be sure to please audiences of all ages. Creative Cauldron’s original adaptation will feature a professional cast of adults and budding young stars! Shows are performed on weekends until the 18th, with matinee and evening shows on Saturdays and Sundays and an evening show on Fridays. Tickets start at $12.

Veterans Ceremony / November 11 / Community Center

Honor local heroes who have served by attending this event at the Falls Church City Veterans Memorial, located in front of the Community Center. This tribute will recognize Falls Church residents who are serving or have served in the U.S. military and will feature remembrances for those who sacrificed their lives or are missing in action. There will also be a wreath presentation and performances by the Falls Church City Concert Band. This is event runs 11 am to 12 pm.

Celebrate Homestretch! / November 15 / The State Theater

This annual gala and auction benefits Homestretch, a non-profit that seeks to eradicate the root causes of homelessness in our communities. Money earned from live and silent auctions will support Homestretch’s mission of providing emergency housing and the tools and knowledge to achieve self-sufficiency and permanent housing. For $50, you can enjoy live music, dancing, raffles, and dessert, and feel good about helping neighbors in need. Gala begins at 8 pm.

Habitat Restoration / November 17 / Howard E. Herman Park

The City of Falls Church Habitat Restoration team works hard to keep the Little City’s wildlife safe. Compound their efforts by joining them in cleaning up Howard E. Herman Stream Valley Park. From 10 am to 12 pm, the team and volunteers will help restore the area by removing invasive species. This activity helps stabilize and maintain a biological habitat for wildlife and ensures that the stream can continue to be used as an educational and recreational resource. More information is available at www.fallschurchva.gov/parks.

A Very Victorian Christmas / November 24 / Cherry Hill Farmhouse

Kick off the holiday season with a step back in time at the Cherry Hill Historic House and Farm. From 10 am to 2 pm, discover how the residents of the farm experienced Christmas in the mid-1800s with true-to-period decorations, carols, and children’s games. Costumed docents will show you around, delight you with stories of Victorian Christmas cheer, and explain how families and soldiers celebrated during this time of conflict. This family-friendly event is free, but donations are appreciated.
