Liberty BBQ: Falls Church City has Barbecue Again!

Who’s ready for some great barbecue? Taking the place of Famous Dave’s, Liberty BBQ has been open for over half a year. The hours were initially limited, with the restaurant only operating in the evening, appealing to the after-work crowd. But now the hours have expanded to open at 11 am daily, with the addition of a happy hour between 3-7 pm every day of the week.

When residents lamented Famous Dave’s closing and wondered if barbecue would ever return to Falls Church, plans were soon set in motion to make sure that the Little City would not be without mouth-watering slow-cooked meats. The owners of Northside Social and Liberty Tavern set their eyes on the vacant property on 370 Broad Street to open Liberty BBQ, which would be styled after Liberty Tavern.

The old Famous Dave’s building has since been gutted out and renovated from without and within. There’s a shiny new bar and updated dining area that looks at once modern yet rustic— the perfect ambiance for a casual lunch or dinner.

If you’re a fan of smoked brisket, ribs, chicken, turkey, pulled pork, sausage, pork belly, and more, then you need to head on over. Their meats that have been cooked for hours are tender and fall-off-the-bone delicious. Anyone not into barbecue can still enjoy the crispy fried chicken or chicken tender sandwiches. Other comfort foods are on the menu like shrimp and grits, hush puppies, smoked wings, and smoked brisket chili, summoning all lovers of hearty southern-style barbecue to come and partake.

Aligning with the tastes of the community, the vegetables offered will always be seasonal to ensure freshness and peak taste. After all, nothing beats the taste of real produce picked at their ripeness for the best flavor.

Brunch is also on the menu, with creative dishes like the Shortrib Hash determined to loosen your belt. It’s a tantalizing blend of roasted potatoes, smoked shortrib, grilled onions, salsa verde, smoked paprika aioli, and fried eggs—all the fuel your body needs to start the day right. You can also go for the Hoecakes or Huevos Rancheros to satisfy a sweet or savory craving!

Patrons with a sweet tooth won’t leave Liberty BBQ disappointed. The Texas Sheet Cake has been made to hit the spot. It’s a chocolate cake rich with whiskey sugar, toasted pecans, with vanilla ice cream on the side. The Butterscotch Banana Pudding is divine with its salted caramel sauce and vanilla wafers, artfully topped with whipped cream.

On select nights, live music takes over the freshly constructed stage. Local musicians and groups like Hall Vote, Karen Jonas, and the Wil Gravat Band have performed to enhance the evening mood, offering a diversity of music styles like blues, country, and high-energy acoustics.

In short, Broadale Village Shopping Center has gained another gem.

Stop on by Liberty BBQ and feast on a triple platter of smoked meats and a side of cool Cole Slaw or have a few drinks with friends around some small plates. No matter why you’ve come, one thing’s for sure—Falls Church has gained another excellent restaurant!
